Teaching style

My teaching style is relationship-based, play-centred and grounded in an understanding of child development. I focus on building connection first, recognising that learning happens best when children feel safe, engaged and understood. Through play, movement and meaningful interaction, I support communication, emotional development and confidence in ways that honour each child’s individual pace and strengths.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have extensive experience designing and delivering workshops, training sessions and professional development programmes for teachers, therapists and parents across South Africa and internationally. My work includes leading workshops on early communication, sensory integration, DIR/Floortime principles, and inclusive classroom practices. Over the years, I have facilitated training for schools, therapy teams and parent groups, presented at conferences, and contributed to ongoing professional development initiatives within early childhood and special education settings. I believe in supporting educators and therapists to feel confident, capable and empowered in their roles. I have also been involved in developing and delivering accredited and non-accredited training programs, mentoring therapists, and supporting multidisciplinary teams through consultation and reflective practice. These experiences have shaped a teaching approach that values collaboration, curiosity and lifelong learning.

My own education history

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Cape Town. Since qualifying, I have continued to expand my clinical knowledge through ongoing postgraduate training and professional development in early childhood development, communication and neurodevelopmental approaches. I have completed extensive training in the DIR®/Floortime model, including foundational and advanced coursework, and I am currently completing my DIR® Certificate Program (CL2) through the Profectum Foundation. My ongoing learning reflects a strong commitment to deepening my understanding of development, relationships and individual differences in children. My professional development also includes training in sensory integration, early communication, play-based learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring that my work remains current, reflective and grounded in best practice.
