Growing Fun

This is a personal dictionary tool for students to use as a support tool for all writing areas. Each page has the necessary high frequency words already listed in alphabetical order. The book also has a days and months page, numbers from 1-20 as well as tens page, and a page of colour words. Each page is doubled so that you get two of the same page on one, which means less copying and a smaller book on your desks. Laminate the cover and bind when done for a durable and useful classroom writing

As inquiry teachers, we are continuously having students reflect on their learning. This activity can be used as a whole class, small group or Student Led Conference reflection on the year's units of inquiry (UOI). Learners can use their portfolios (hard copy or online source), to look back at their body of knowledge, connections and skills. Written reflections using a "plus/delta" aid the teacher or parents in where growth has been made or what might need to change.

This is a great opening activity for the first week of school. Print out the banner template on light coloured copy paper (A3 or 11x17 if possible). Have the students fill it in and draw themselves doing something "awesome". They then cut out their banner triangle and you fold the top flap to staple over string, yarn or ribbon. Hang across the classroom for a great start of the year display.

Two 100's grids both with number words, but only one has number words and numerals. This is a great tool for everyday writing or when doing number of the day tasks. Print a few and laminate for independent tasks or 1 large 11x17 (A3) to put up as a poster.

Children will use dominos to create a fraction, write it and then use shapes to draw an example of a given fraction. This is great for students who have some understanding of fractions and representing them.
