Skip Counting by 10s

A gradual process that enables students to think about skip counting in multiple ways. I use this activity in small group with my students. This resource is written in a way that communicates the step by step process. A teacher, teacher assistant, or a student teacher are able to read through the script and look at the models to have a clear picture on how to execute this strategy. After just one use of this strategy, I have seen drastic results! An ELL student of mine was able to skip count aft

Array Practice

Arrays of fun! Arrays can be tricky especially for English Language Learners with all the new vocabulary on top of the addition that they have to do! That is why I break arrays into two parts with this activity. Day one only focuses on Rows. Day two focuses only on Columns. This allows a slow introduction to both the vocabulary and the mathematical concept! As always a script is included with this resource. The daily schedule of an Educator leaves little downtime. The script allows me to pass th
Preview of Missing Equations Mats

Missing Equations Mats

I designed these mats for my son who is currently learning how to solve for what is missing in an equation. These mats help to enforce vocabulary ( addend, minuend, subtrahend, difference, and sum) and also provide a visual aid of each vocabulary word. The visual also illustrates the concept behind subtraction and addition, which is crucial in my opinion for our younger learners to truly understand the conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction not just be fluent in procedure. These ma

Counting 1:1 Correspondence

This product is perfect for small groups or independent practice when learning or practicing to count with 1:1 correspondence. This activity can be used in a variety of ways! The teacher can print copies for students and give students stamps, finger paint, stickers, or a dry erase marker, to place or make a mark in each circle when counting to the number the teacher writes and indicates. This is a great way for students to limit re-counting a place more than once. Where a sticker or mark is at,

Addition & Subtraction Mats (with number line)

These mats are great for small group work and independent practice! Students who are adding and subtracting with manipulatives, can use these mats to group addends and put them together, or to group the minuend and take away the other minuend. Students who no longer need objects to add or subtract, but are not yet able to do mental math can draw the addends, and minuends in the circles. If you laminate or put these mats in a clear protective sleeve, they can be used with dry erase markers, and b

ODD & EVEN Color Board

Odd and Even Numbers can be a tricky concept for some students to grasp. That is why I use this color board, it provides sufficient practice with each number from 1 to 20. The step by step process and use of manipulatives help make this concept concrete for students. A script is included with this resource. The script makes this activity a stress-free resource that you can hand-off to a teacher assistant, student teacher, and/or tutor, without explanation on how to utilize this resource. This re

Main Idea & Key Details

Three short texts, a teacher script, and vocabulary definitions all in one! This is my go to resource when reviewing/re-teaching Main Idea & Key Details to my students. The first text is used to demonstrate the concept to the small group. The other two texts are for practice. A script is included, which makes this easy to pass off to teacher assistants, student teachers, or volunteers without having to explain the resource and how it is used. This can also be used at Literacy Centers or on a

Teaching style

Discovery Learning is my preferred and most experienced style of teaching. Allowing the student to use the skills and knowledge they already have to approach and tackle a problem, in my opinion is the best approach. This creates a confident learner because they are putting into practice knowledge they already possess to solve a problem they have not yet seen. This approach also allows the student to be apart of the learning and the leader of his or her learning. I love to use discovery learning in group work, because then the students' have a greater pool of knowledge to pull from. I am able to provide support and feedback, and they are working on 21st century skills while acquiring as a team new knowledge and or skills.
