Experience

I have been teaching twelve years. I taught 5th Grade for 8 years. I taught 1st Grade 2 years and 4th Grade 2 years. I have been an ITRT for 4 years where I have helped teachers in all grade levels and subjects from Pre-K through 5th Grade. I love creating activities and discovering new ways to make math fun for all my students. I have also served as our school's running club coach for 10 years, where I have created fun educational activities to get students moving.

Teaching style

It is really tough to describe my teaching style because I like to do so many different things with my students so I can keep them on their toes. They never know what we are going to be doing that day. Sometimes we do take notes, but they don't sit there in class and watch me writing. I usually have students come to the front of the room and help me create their notes by helping me solve their math problems. I like to do a lot of hands on activities and small group instruction. I also like to have to have students get up and move! I try my best to make learning fun and meaningful for students.I use positive reinforcements to award students when they are making good choices. So what is my teaching style? Positively energetic and fun. We learn something new everyday and we don't just sit there, we get up and move or create something exciting!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I received a " Math Grant" a couple years ago for my "Racing Against Math Facts" project in my classroom. I was named Teacher Of The Year on the Regional Level by the Veteran's Of Foreign Wars Organization.

My own education history

I graduated from Longwood University in 2009. I majored in Liberal Studies- Elementary Education and minored in Communication Studies.
