Many of us have done a similar activity to this where the class goes on a hunt for the Gingerbread Man throughout the school. It is always fun to watch the kids as they search the school for their next clue. I have taken this fun activity and tweaked it just a bit. On the first day of school I read the book The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. After reading the book we go on a Chester hunt through the school. This is an exciting way for my kindergarteners to meet some of the key people in our school

This is an independent math center which focuses on tally marks and graphing. Students will count the cookies in the cookie jar. Your student will then write how many of each type of cookie he or she has on the recording sheet. Then, the student will write tally marks for each type of cookie. Last, he or she will complete the graphing page and answer the questions. I have included 3 different cookie jars and graphs to allow for easy differentiation of this activity. Students will have fun testing their knowledge in this independent literacy center. Students will match the uppercase and lowercase letters. This can also easily be turned into a alphabet memory game.

This is an independent math center which focuses on even and odd numbers. Students will sort numbers into even and odd groups and then record their answers onto the provided handout. I have included 3 different worksheets which allows for easy differentiation among students.

Students will have fun testing their knowledge in this independent math center. This activity can be done independently or in a cooperative setting. Students will match a number to the written form of the number. Students will need to identify numbers 1-30.

Students will sort the letters into two groups, uppercase and lowercase letters.

Students will enjoy using this independent or cooperative learning center. This center focuses on rhyming words. I have included two levels using the same words. The two levels are easily identified through the different color peppermints. The 1st level uses pictures for nonreaders while the second set uses words. I have also included a worksheet for each level to check for understanding.

Students will have fun testing their knowledge in this independent literacy center. Students will need to identify the missing letter in a list of letters from the alphabet. This is level 2 of this activity. It has 2 letters missing from each grouping. There is a recording sheet attached you may use. Have the student record their answers on the sheet and you can quickly review the page to see how the child is doing.
