About the store
I am in my 12th year of teaching though my background is somewhat unique. I taught 1st grade for 2 years at Church Point Elementary and then kindergarten for 3 years at Carencro Heights Elementary. At that time I was fortunate enough to be able to choose to stay at home with my daughter. I then worked part-time doing medical transcription and raising my two daughters for 10 years. I taught kindergarten for 4 years and served as a district ELA Coach, helping other ELA teachers across the district, for 2 years. I chose to return to the classroom for the 19-20 school year at Duson Elementary and I teach 2nd grade ELA. The 20-21 school year will be my 8th year back in education in Louisiana.

Experience

Teaching style

My teaching style varies often and typically depends on each group of students I have. Overall I try to balance hands-on activities with activity sheet type of work as the demand for students to be able to complete seat work independently continues to grow. I also try to employ many kinesthetic learning opportunities. We are blessed to be a 1:1 school and each student has a Chromebook to work on so I am working to create new products to use with this technology as well.

Awards & shining teacher moments

While on hiatus from teaching I was honored as an APEL Volunteer of the Year award through the Louisiana State Department of Education.

My own education history

I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (then known as University of Southern Louisiana) in 1999 with a Bachelor's of Arts in Education and am certified to teach grades K to 4. Prior to returning to the classroom I completed 2 additional educational courses through University of Phoenix to update my teacher certification after being out of the classroom for 10 years.
