Hall Pass / Germ Juice Parking Spots

I use bottles of hand sanitizer as hall passes in my 5th grade classroom. When students need to use the restroom, they place the bottle on their desk while they are gone and then get a squirt of sanitizer when they return. The bottles are supposed to be placed back on the front table afterwards, but often are not and the next student who needs to use the restroom has to hunt for it. I put these hall passes inside a plastic sleeve and use packing tape to attach them to my front table. Students

About the store

Experience

I have taught for twenty-seven years in public and private schools. I have taught and love both social studies and language arts. My favorite genre of literature is historical fiction, and will be one focus of my store. Materials for both ELA and history will be a focus as well.

Teaching style

My teaching style is eclectic. I tend to have a "bag of tricks" from which to pull and my students never know what might happen from one day to the next. I believe that students should learn not only the material, but real world skills, so I try to create learning environments where students can learn cooperation, teamwork, etc. I want my students to learn not only how to work individually, but also in a group. I also try to give the students choices when it is appropriate and differentiate as much as possible.

My own education history

I have a BA in Elementary Education from Murray State University (KY) with endorsements in middle school language arts and social sciences. I am working toward a Master's degree. I have also attended numerous workshops in language arts, reading, science, and social studies.

Additional biographical information

I enjoy creating new materials, particularly for reading/language arts. I love to read a new novel and create an entire unit around that novel from start to finish.
