About the store
I never imagined myself as a middle school teacher, but after landing a middle school job in 2003, I've been here ever since. I enjoy the creativity and flexibility that you have when teaching at the middle school level. I taught one semester full time at the college level and have taught a semester adjunct as well. It was a wonderful experience, but I'd rather be in a middle school classroom for now.

This is a research project where students will create a scrapbook of an immigrant's story coming to America. It involves the student doing research using primary and secondary sources, analyzing those sources to create their own creative writing letters, finding authentic photos, and artifacts (or images or artifacts of the period) and putting them together in a way that is neat and appealing to look at. Teaching style

My goal as a teacher is make history interesting and real for my students. I do this by trying to incorporate alternative assessments, technology, and traditional assessments all while trying to fit in the state standards and raise test scores. Not an easy goal, but at the end of the year if the students come away loving history and learning something, I consider myself a winner even if the scores don't show it.

Additional biographical information

I love history so much because of my wonderful parents who took us on "educational vacations" instead of to the beach and fun places. We went to battlefields and presidents' houses. But after returning from a family trip with those same wonderful parents, my family of four, and brother's family of four to Washington DC on another "educational vacation" with the second generation. It was totally worth it! All four grandchildren were mesmerized with the museums we visited and the presidential homes we toured. New history teachers in bloom. Mission accomplished. :-)
