About the store
I previously was the Spanish teacher for 400+ students at a K-8 school in New Jersey. Classes were taught either on a weekly, daily or block schedule. Busy, busy! Several of those years I travelled on a cart from classroom to classroom. My experience as the travelling Spanish teacher formed me to be highly organized, efficient and flexible. Unsatisfied with the resources that I had at hand, I created much of the curriculum on my own. For the past year, I have being teaching an after school Spanish enrichment class for preschoolers ages 3 through 5. Each class is 30 minutes of song, games and crafts.

Experience

Teaching style

When I make a lesson, I ask myself: 1) Is this real life, hands-on Spanish or just simply book Spanish? (I don't do the latter) 2) Is it affordable and easy to prepare? 3) Is it fun to teach and to learn?

Awards & shining teacher moments

2003- Received grant from FLENJ (Foreign Language Teachers of New Jersey) to study Latin American muralists, to take Spanish I students in 8th grade on a trolley tour of murals in Philadelphia and to create our own mural. My biggest accomplishments lie in the small moments. For instance, when a student gains confidence in a skill or another previously quiet student takes a risk in speaking in front of their peers.

My own education history

I graduated with an International Business degree from Juniata College. (Go Eagles!) After a few years of working in finance, I finally succumbed to the career I should have started from the beginning: teaching. In 2002 received a teaching degree through New Jersey's Alternate Route program after studying at night while teaching during the day.

Additional biographical information

At this time I define myself as a stay-at-home mother but do work part-time teaching a pre-school enrichment class. I can't seem to stay away from keeping my teaching skills fresh! I enjoy testing out each lesson not only on my classes but also on my two young sons. If it's not fun and educational, I don't put it on Teachers Pay Teachers!
