About the store
Presently, I am employed at Vicenza Middle School where I have been serving the past two years as FCT Leader for English Language Arts Grade 6. Prior to this tour, I served as LIMM at Maxwell Elementary Middle School in the Americas. Before joining the awesome DoDEA system, I served as Cape Fear Community College’s Adult High School and High School Equivalency Coordinator in a supervisory capacity. However, for most of my career, I have had the honor of teaching English and literacy as a certified instructor in those areas. I hold National Board Certification, and K-12 Reading Certification and Special Education licenses. Additionally, I have taken course work to obtain the ability to teach Gifted, AP, and Honor students. I have taught in the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have a wealth of strategies and knowledge that can be shared to positively impact the staff and student body, and I look forward to getting involved in leadership opportunities, especially those related to English, curriculum and instruction, and those that will provide opportunities to partner in the success of schools. Throughout my career I have had the privilege to create and deliver staff development workshops, at the school and district level, mentor beginning teachers, and advocate for students by preparing them for college and career through the instruction of the Common Core Standards. In addition to my roles at the school, I have served as a leader at the district level by assisting the Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability Office with writing English curriculum, creating a English I Digital Textbook, delivering professional development during the back to school workshops, and organizing and leading the AVID Summer Institutes. In recent experiences as an English instructor, I exceeded expectations, according to the North Carolina EVAAS data reporting system for End-of-Grade standardized assessments by helping my students obtain a growth measure of 3.6% above their predicted scores. In years prior to this one, all of my students made “As” on the NC Final Exam with the exception of two students who made “Bs”.

Teaching style

My philosophy is grounded on the principles of twenty-first century learning. I strongly believe that instruction should be student-centered and teacher facilitated. It should be linked to rigorous yet relevant learning goals that are based on Common Core and State Standards. Utilizing multiple intelligence activities, increasing critical thinking, developing strong communication skills, both written and oral, collaborating, implementing frequent formative assessments, and engaging students in authentic learning tasks are top priorities.
