I am going on my third year teaching 8th grade Math at a public Middle School in the Capital Region of New York. I have taught a diversity of students, including ELL and Special Education students, so my materials posted here all include differentiation. I have been working with Middle School students for the past seven years through after school and weekend STEM programs. I privately tutor Math ranging from 5th through 12th grade. I have taught 8th grade Math and Geometry in Summer School for the past two years. I am currently expanding my own education by taking Graduate courses in Curriculum and Instruction, so I have the most up to date information regarding curriculum.

This engaging, creative activity is a GREAT way to assess what your students have learned so far in solving multi-step equations! I use this at the end of the Unit. Assign each student a problem (see attached). Each student must make a poster displaying their problem, steps they took to solve it and everything that is included on the checklist. It is easily differentiated and modified, the problems you can choose from vary in difficulty. I have had some extremely creative outcomes from this pro

Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides-Visual

Great tool for visual learners! I have students draw out each equation on the scale-using tick marks for numbers and writing out how many variables there are. This really helps students understand why we must have variables on one side and constants on the other. You can use algebra tiles but I find it easier to just draw out the equation.

I have been working with Middle School students for the past seven years through after school and weekend STEM programs. I privately tutor Math ranging from 5th through 12th grade. Teaching style

My teaching style can best be described as laid back and student centered. Math is taught best through personal experience so I ensure each of my students are engaged in their own education by pushing them to do the work independently and in groups. I see myself as a facilitator not a lecturer. I am calm, supportive and have very high expectations for my students. I strive to meet them where they are at and work at an individual level with every student.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I graduated from Siena College cum laude and was a member of Kappa Delta Pi (International Honor Society in Education) and Pi Mu Epsilon (National Honor Society in Mathematics).

My own education history

I graduated from Siena College, a small liberal arts college in Loudonville, NY, in 2018. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction through SUNY Empire.

Additional biographical information

I am a dedicated teacher and love my job. There is nothing I would rather do than work with children every day and watch them blossom into hard working, independent learners who take value in their education.
