About the store
I have taught in Iowa, Connecticut, North Carolina, Misssouri, Alberta (Canada), and Texas. I have a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance a Master of Arts in Gifted Education, and a Creative Writing Certificate. My teaching experience includes general and vocal music, creative writing, fifth grade generalist, and gifted education. I have worked with students in grades pre-K through 12, in public and private schools, most recently at two different IB - PYP schools.

5th Grade Texas Reading and Math Skills/TEKS Checklists
Use a coding system with dates to record student progress on 5th grade TEKs. The Reading Skills checklist is front to back, with space to record independent reading book titles. The Math Skills checklist is front to back. You will want to print a copy for each student. You can add sticky notes or a blank page to your data binder to record student quotes and additional notes, or adapt the file for computerized documentation.

Reading Challenge Menu
This is a fun, optional way to encourage students to try some different books as part of their independent reading over the course of the school year, or for the summer. There are 20 different ideas, so students completing Donalyn Miller's 40-Book Challenge still have plenty of freedom to choose titles! Teaching style
I am a strong advocate for voice and choice in the classroom. I prefer student-centered, constructivist, inquiry-based, project-oriented instructional design. I'm on a mission to introduce every student to the next great book, and to create learning spaces where critical and creative thinking flourish.
