The purpose of this laboratory is mainly for students to observe how empirical probability approaches the theoretical probability as the sample size increases (the Law of Large Numbers). Along the way, they will practice deriving simple formulae for the probability of an event and calculating empirical probability. The probabilities will form a geometric sequence. Students will get an opportunity to apply their knowledge of geometric sequences. The bonus questions are optional and extend the
The lesson presents two applications of logarithms commonly used in science: calculating LD50 and pH. Step-by-step instructions are provided for the students to walk them through organizing and applying basic knowledge of log base 10. An answer key is provided for the teacher's reference so that they can focus on ideas instead of calculations. Pre-planning: 60 minutes graph paper scientic or graphing calculator Prerequisite Knowledge: logarithm base 10 graph linear functions unit conversion, rat
