Teaching style

My teaching style is structured, visual, and compassionate. I believe in meeting every student where they are. I use clear routines, visual supports, and scaffolded instruction to break down complex skills into manageable steps. I balance direct instruction with visual modeling, hands-on supports, and a ton of positive reinforcement. My approach is student-centered, trauma-informed, and always grounded in functional goals that promote independence and communication. Above all, I aim to create a calm, consistent, and engaging learning environment where students feel safe to try, grow, and succeed—at their own pace.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Over the years, I’ve learned that progress in a special education classroom often comes in quiet, powerful moments. One of my proudest was when a student who had never spoken in class used a visual choice board I created to request a preferred item. That single moment reminded me that communication doesn’t have to be verbal to be meaningful—and it sparked my drive to create tools that give every student a voice. Another unforgettable experience came from simply rewriting a student’s IEP goal using a structured template I designed. With that clarity and support, he began meeting his task completion goals week after week. It taught me that the right goal—when it’s clear and measurable—can change everything, and it’s why I now share those same templates with other educators. I’ve also seen how collaboration fuels growth. Working alongside a speech therapist, we used WH-question visuals I designed to support a nonverbal student using AAC. Within a month, he was independently answering “who” and “what” questions—an incredible milestone that reminded me how consistent, shared tools can unlock real learning. And then there are those unexpected wins—like the student with a low IQ and limited receptive language who rarely engaged in groups. During a sequencing lesson using picture cards I had created, not only did he complete the task, but he helped a peer do it too. In that moment, I was reminded that growth comes in many forms—and every small success deserves to be celebrated. These moments are why I teach—and why I create. Every resource I offer is rooted in experiences like these, built to support teachers and empower students in the most meaningful ways.

My own education history

I hold a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and have spent the last 7 years teaching students with diverse learning needs across multiple grade levels. My experience includes working with students diagnosed with autism, expressive and receptive language deficits, and intellectual disabilities. I specialize in creating structured, visual, and accessible instruction tailored to students with low working memory and IQs in the 50–60 range. In addition to classroom teaching, I’m currently continuing my own education to expand my impact in the field of special education. My work is grounded in real-life classroom experience, collaboration with speech-language pathologists, and a strong commitment to helping students build independence through functional academics, communication, and behavior supports.
