One challenge I found was finding a generic worksheet to work on the major elements of comprehension--no matter the genre. With that in mind, I created 10 weeks worth of reading logs with activities geared towards a specific comprehension skill, rather than a specific text or genre activity. As I worked my way through Kindergarten this past year, I realized that one thing that seemed to be lacking was not the access to data and graphing information, but rather a way to spiral that data and graphing into every day math discussions. Making data disaggregation a natural part of the way kids think about math, and tying it into their math schema became my goal. Poetry is one of my favorite things to teach. It allows students to express themselves in a way that is free, creative, and unique to their personalities. I just adore HP. I started reading the books before the 3rd book came out and was first in line every time a new book came out. I love the books. And I love the wit and wisdom contained within the 7+ volumes of the wizarding world. Because I want to pique the interest of my students I decided to use HP as our inspiration.
