D-N-Do the Science

This lesson has students exploring the scientific process within the scope of a chemist, a biologist, or a physicist. Borrowing from DnD's idea of character sheets and roleplay, each scientist gets their own sheet for you to laminate and handout. Experience

Previously, I have worked as a STEAM teacher for 6th through 8th grade for hearing students alongside being the curriculum developer at a local after-school programming center. Currently, I am a Deaf Ed inclusion teacher for science and ELAR.

Teaching style

In my classroom and when I modify or accommodate, I enjoy using hands-on strategies that encourage the students to physically work with the concepts I am trying to teach. This shows through in philosophies like project-based learning, constructivism, translanguaging, and many other strategies that help our Deaf students access the materials.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Flagler College and was gifted the Department Award for Excellence from the College of Education. Later, I was also requested to speak as a panel speaker for the Teaching Fellows of South Carolina on the topic of hearing impairments and common comorbidities of deaf students.

My own education history

I graduated from St. Johns River State College with an AA Degree and then transferred to Flagler College. There I graduated with a dual major in Education of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics.

Additional biographical information

Currently working in Texas as an instructor for Deaf and hard of hearing students, I see it all! From students with no language learning American culture and appropriate science knowledge, to students with above grade level communication skills conducting independent experiments. More importantly, I support my team by bringing in new techniques, technologies, and community engagement strategies that benefit the overall growth of our students here with diverse environments and topics.
