Dr. Sandra Kaplan's Icons of Depth and Complexity are an excellent resource for increasing deep critical thinking across subject areas in your classroom. Despite being usually used in gifted and talented education, I have used this icons with great success in my general education classrooms over the last five years. This resource is designed to be used to generate written reflections around a text of your choice. Each worksheet has a different combination of the 11 Icons of Depth and Complexity

Monthly Student Rewards given to focus on learning and growth. Reading, Mathing (designed to be tongue in cheek), Writing, and Character for each month from August to June. I hand these out at monthly reward ceremonies and pair them with a classroom reward such as sit where you want for a day. These charts are designed as a behavior management reward. Students vote on what four things would make the holiday or seasonal party the best one yet and then work to earn each reward. Students can earn a circle by beating the teacher in teacher vs. student each day or whatever daily reward method you may have in place in your classroom. These have been hits for years. They are completely editable to fit your needs and whatever your students decide will make that perfect party.
