While in grade school, I was a peer-tutor in the subjects of math and science and provided tutoring for a friend's parent through his college algebra course, as I was enrolled in Calculus 2. I acquired my Bachelor of Science in Fish and Wildlife Management with a specialization in Environmental Education. While completeing my studies, I was a Laboratory Instructor for the Zoology and Animal Physiology courses, instructing groups of approximately 18 undergraduate students. I've worked in non-formal education as a tour guide and education facilitator at the Bell Museum of Natural History, specializing in engaging the attention of elementary age children. My internship was completed as an Environmental Educator for Peacable Kingdom Retreat for Children- an outdoor facility utilized for the instruction of special needs and chronically ill children K-12. While there, I developed a lesson manual to improve the educational efforts of the permanant staff. I then worked at a middle school as a special education aide, and tutored homeschooled elementary aged children in the subject of science. I currently work as a database administrator and Quality Systems Supervisor for a candle factory using access, excel, SQL, and visual basic.

Teaching style

I believe that the teacher is nothing more than the facilitator for learning. A teacher provides access to a bank of information and builds in the child a desire to learn- helping children discover avenues for educating themselves and building an interest in a variety of subjects that will inspire them to continue the pursuit of learning and discovery throughout the years. As such, I believe in answering a student's questions with questions, providing materials filled with information, creating an environment that will facilitate learning, and engagin a child in their particular interests. It is important to incorporate all subjects in every-day things, so that students may see and identify ways their education can help them succeed. I teach children what a joy learning can be and how to find answers for themselves, so that when they leave the classroom they will always and forever be building in knowledge, skills, and ability.

While my area of expertise is in zoological sciences, I have always loved learning and am always in pursuit of knowledge on a variety of topics. I completed all my formal studies with top marks, and often helped tutor my friends and peers through their courses. I have a love for writing and the arts that has driven my hobbies and interests outside of work, and am a skilled mathematician. I have also avidly pursued self-studies in computer sciences, leading to my current position as a database administrator. I hope to be able to share my knowledge and expertise with others, so that they may also light the fire of inspiration in our youth and themselves.
