Experience

I have been an educator for 31 years at Kittatinny Regional High School in New Jersey. I began my career as a social studies teacher and am now a Gifted Education Services Coordinator and teacher. I have been a National Geographic Teacher Consultant and coordinated the state level of National Geographic Bee for five years. Teaching style

In my student-centered classroom, I utilize a variety of techniques in my instructional and assessment methods, with great emphasis on hands-on learning. My creative and innovative lessons produce a high level of student engagement. Not only are my students interacting with content, they are practicing collaboration, decision-making, and creative expression.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was named the Kittatinny Regional High School Teacher of the Year, Sussex County Teacher of the Year and was a finalist for New Jersey State Teacher of the Year in 2006-2007. I was awarded a National Geographic Education Foundation Grant for "A Medieval Banquet at the Alhambra." Four of my projects have been successfully funded through Donors Choose, including "Poetry: For Rhyme and Reason" and "Cinderella Connections."

My own education history

I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Alfred University, majoring in History, with minors in Secondary Education, Anthropology and American Cultural Studies. I pursued a Master's degree from University of Scranton in Curriculum and Instruction and went on to earn a graduate certificate from Rutgers University in Gifted Education.

Where can you find me after my teaching day? With children now grown and college graduates, I am often found home reading or crafting. I also co-own the Etsy shop Simple and Thoughtful with my daughter.
