Conversion factors

My students always have a hard time with converting from one measurement system to another or even within the same system! I give this to all my incoming physics and physical science students on day one. It lists most of the common standard to metric equivalents needed in science. It also contains a few metric to metric just in case. The second page allows them to list the specific units and another column to list example formula that result in that unit as well. About the store

Experience

I have a masters degree in Secondary Ed with a concentration in Biology. I have 22 years of classroom experience teaching biology, physical science, physics, introductory engineering and environmental science. I have built catapults, hovercraft, an inflatable whale, a 14 man cardboard boat, and polished mirrors for a real satellite.

Teaching style

I am rather informal and humorous. I put a great deal of effort into trying to find ways to connect my students to the material by sharing real life experiences, tangible activities and multimedia presentations. I don't really like textbooks too much and so prefer to make my own class notes, labs, activity sheets, and tests.

Awards & shining teacher moments

2 student awarded yearbook dedications, numerous certificates of achievement by our school board, newspaper and magazine articles, three 1st place finishes for our Catapult Club which I sponsor, and an unofficial world record for sailing our cardboard boat a mile.

My own education history

B.A. in psychology, business minor from Lycoming College, Williamsport, Pa M.A.T., in Secondary Ed, Biology, from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC

Additional biographical information
