Circles and Stars is a timeless/classic multiplication game that was first introduced by the eminent mathematics educator, Marilyn Burns.  Circles and Stars is a game that gives students a visual interpretation of multiplication and repeated addition. The game also helps students see multiplication as the combining of equal-size groups that can be represented with a multiplication equation.  There are many iterations of this game and game board, but this user-friendly game worksheet that I’ve cr

Simple Game - Loads of Fun - Engaging Game Board - No Elaborate Materials (just print out game board, provide some dice and some colored markers/tiles)! In a nutshell, players roll a dice, calculate if the number rolled divides evenly into the number on the game board, and if so, moves forward the number of spaces on the dice. What better way to practice basic division!

Teaching style

My pedagogy is predicated on cultually responsive teaching models and beliefs. I align my teaching to student centered, constructivist, paradigms. I believe technology is a necessary component in lesson development and delivery, as well as harnessing the personal devices students utilize in their daily lives. I also adhere to the pursuit of creating a strong community of learners in numerous ways that are reflective of the diversity of cultures I continue to have the privilege of serving.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Future City Competition - Western Region - Environmental Award

My own education history

I didn't choose teaching as a career. Rather, it chose me. I began as a radio/tv production teacher at a vocational school in the Upper Midwest. My undergraduate degree is from Indiana University-Bloomington. I received my teaching credential from Antioch University-Los Angeles. And this past December 2019, I completed my M.S.Ed. from CaIifornia State University-East Bay in Online Teaching and Learning! If anything, I continue to pursue Life Long Learning enrichment opportunities, such as, but notwithstanding, attendance at Writer's/Reader's Workshops at Columbia University's Teacher's College.
