I am a third generation teacher and feel that teaching is the most effective and most enjoyable way to change the world. Teaching allows me to work on the hearts and minds of my students, to guide them into becoming empowered, literate, engaged, creative, liberated human beings who are globally aware and prepared for life’s challenges. I have learned that flexibility and open-mindedness are essential in accomplishing these goals as well as keeping communication lines open with parents to help build a support system for my students. One of my main focal points is on developing higher-level conceptual skills that can be applied to subsequent specific problems. This way the student learns how to solve any problem instead of just memorizing a string of disparate solutions to specific problems. I like to do this through enabling my students with positive encouragement, quality lessons with timely feed back, the ability to compare, analyze, synthesize, evaluate, generalize, and problem solve. These will benefit them not only in the classroom but throughout their lifetime as well.
