History of izzit.org
izzit.org launched in 2006 with a mission to help students think critically about the world around them. Our founder, Bob Chitester, was passionate about making big ideas, like how economies work, what makes a society thrive, and the importance of individual choices, accessible and engaging for high school students.
From the start, our goal has been to equip teachers with high-quality, thought-provoking resources that fit into real classrooms. Our first video lessons, including The Price System, The Foundations of Wealth, and Yours and Mine, focused on helping students explore social, economic, and civic concepts through stories and examples they could connect with. While not all of these early titles are still available on our website, they laid the groundwork for our current offerings.
Thanks to early support from educators and a growing demand for relevant classroom tools, izzit.org quickly expanded. By repurposing content from award-winning documentaries, we could build a robust library of videos and lessons faster, without sacrificing quality. What began with a focus on economics has grown into a diverse range of subjects, including civics, government, U.S. history, financial literacy, and more. Today, our most-used resources—like our 45-Minute Lessons, Virtual International Field Trip, and daily Current Events—reflect that growth and are designed to meet the evolving needs of today’s educators and students.
In 2021, izzit.org became its own 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
