This table is intended to accompany the Scholastic News Video and Article about Fiona the Hippo. The Think, Write, Pair, Share activity is great for promoting deep thinking and conversation about a topic. It really gets students to think critically and listen to one another.
This chart is a simple way to teach predictions and inferences that also helps to remember the difference between predictions and inferences. If you put it in a plastic sleeve, or laminate it, you can use dry or wet erase markers to make predictions and inferences over and over again!
These are two Limericks I came up with to try to have fun around St. Patrick's Day with my ESL and Spanish bilingual students. I made it a game to see who can find the most, or all of the errors in the first Limerick. Sometimes I have to remind my students about the show, El Chavo del Ocho (even though they watch it all the time), before they get the second one, but once they do, they have a good laugh.
