This lesson allows your students to understand exactly what physical characteristics are used to identify and differentiate fish from other ocean animals. They will also have the opportunity to research (either full group or independently) to identify various other animals found in the water. Students will be exposed to some of the concerns that face our ocean today, and research conservation efforts that can be used to support a healthy ocean and planet.

This lesson will give your students the vocabulary they need to identify fish from all the other species you find in the ocean. Following the introduction of the physical characteristics to identifying fish, students can participate in a guided activity to demonstrate their understanding.
