Experience

As an undergraduate, Jamison gained experience and became certified in Pre-K through 5th education. Specifically, he has taught 3rd grade in a Title I school for the past four years, and will be transitioning to 4th grade in the upcoming school year. During his time as a 3rd grade teacher, he taught a range of diverse students. Two of his four years of service were in an inclusion setting, he utilized his ESOL certification to teach his several English Language Learning Students (ELLs), worked with coteachers to bridge learning gaps within EIP students, and provided an academically challenging environment for his many gifted students as well. In addition to teaching, he also tutors students k-12 from impoverished backgrounds with the help of a partnership from a local outreach organization within his town.

Teaching style

Regardless of the content being taught, Jamison's teaching style is an inquiry approach. It is his belief that children learn the most by exploring and actually doing--not simply observing. Jamison also likes to incorporate purpose and technology within his teaching, so students understand the relevance of the content being taught as well as learning to become a digital citizen in the 21st Century.

Awards & shining teacher moments

As an undergrad, Jamison was inducted into his school's chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education.

My own education history

Jamison is a graduate of Dalton State College, where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education. While an undergraduate, he also received an endorsement in ESOL Education. He has continued his education in several instances since graduating and starting his teaching career. His district is partnered with Lesley University, and as a result, he has received continual professional development with Literacy Collaborative (A Balanced Literacy Framework) every year of his career. He also has began post-graduate coursework part-time.
