Included are the lessons for a mini unit or the beginning of a unit on fossils. I'm at a school that doesn't have much time for science, so I did a 3 lesson unit on fossils. This includes the lessons, although I would supplement with internet worksheets and coloring pages for when students finish early, since I used materials from an old purchased collection my school had. A step-by-step packet for students to complete in order to create a brochure describing the California Regions. Brochure includes: title page, coast region, valley region, desert region, mountain region, and the best region (common core opinion writing!).

A step-by-step worksheet for students to write their own California Legends. I read stories from the book "Back Before Bedtime" to start and then we brainstorm topics for the legends. We write one legend as a class, then the students write and illustrate one on their own.

PowerPoint designed to be used with students that includes music and art for students to make connections between the arts and the Westward movement. Great way to integrate music and paintings into history.

This lesson includes the lesson plan and a beginning, middle, and end graphic organizer for the book, Streganona. It is written with 2nd grade ELA California Standards in mind, but I'm sure is easily adaptable to different states.
