Snack Bag Bar Graph Activity

This activity is similiar to the popular M&M color graphing activity, but I adjusted it to use snacks I had around the house instead of buying M&M's. Students sort their snacks into type, record the data on the table, choose a title for the graph, and complete a bar graph to represent what was in their snack bag. Finally, they will use their graphs to answer questions.

Teaching style

I believe that the most important aspect of teaching, particularly in the elementary grades, is to form good relationships with students and foster an environment of mutual respect. Once that is achieved, much more learning will be able to take place. When I get frustrated with my job, I think back about some of my teachers, and realize that I can remember vivid details about them: the way they dressed, lessons they did, the way they made me feel. That reminds me of the fact that decisions I make today, and the things I do for my students today, will truly be remembered for a lifetime.
