CHOOSE MY PLATE ACTIVITIES-ENGLISH

MY THANK YOU SALE - FREE FOR A WHILE!!! This is an English form of my "choose my plate" in Spanish. The Spanish has been very very successful, and I wanted ESL and English classes to benefit from this fun activity. First, this activity "runs" itself. The students do the work, and the teacher explains the food plate idea simply. They can use color pencils to color in their own food plate. This can be done at home or in school. It is tailor made for ESL or English classes. The students hav

CI stories are great, but I always thought, there has to be a build-up to the story. I can't just "read it" to the students. I thought "What's the point?" So I created 6 activities that start with 1.voc. introduction 2.illustrating 3.writing 4.reading 5.re-telling the story with comic strip help 6.working on activities that have them do the work. The duration could take several days of short sessions, depending on what the teachers want to use. My personal goal is to build on this story

CI story Spanish. PDF format, 24 slides. Good for elementary or early middle school. Uses animal vocabulary, verbs, exclamations, expressions, with pictures and the words also on the page. This is my artwork (I love stick art!) This came from my remote teaching experience in 2021, to help students with CI remotely. They loved it! The story is about a dog that speaks Spanish, with fun twists and turns. Easy reading. I may create activities as well with this. Questions can be added for studen

This started out as a Spanish lesson, but I liked it so much I put the activity into English as well. It can be used by ESL classes, or be used as a mini lesson for any class! This lesson came about when I presented the (KWL) chart to students, and their desire was “to learn how to say I am allergic to foods.” I honored that with this lesson plan! I try to make it simple I hand out the first page to students For a few days, I read choices from the right side, “I cannot eat nuts.”and the stud

My activities are free except my new stories. I love to draw. Studies show that pictures help recall. This is especially true with storytelling. This is the story in JPEG format, with pictures to accompany the storyline. The storyline is a frog who lives in a pet store, and a young person who adopts the frog. It is loosely based on stories students told during remote teaching. This story brings in birthdays, age, emotions, questions, verbs, and more, in an organic way. My goal is to continue the

Teaching style

For me t’s all about creating “working “sheets, not worksheets. I try to create activities where the student has to do more of the work, rather than just filling in a quick answer. It really is true to work smarter not harder for the teacher! I also think that when we talk about skills and skill teaching, it’s more than just memorization and recognition which are skills, but there are other skills: listening, sound recognition, spelling, solving a problem, sharing, information, and more One example is when I taught vocabulary and grammar surrounding travel, I told the students “you might not remember the French, but I’m gonna teach you how to book a flight, how to plan what you’re going to do on that trip, and how to write a letter if your luggage is lost.” It’s that kind of skill also that I tried to focus on.
