Teaching style

As a music educator, I believe deeply in student-led learning—where curiosity, creativity, and personal expression guide the journey. In my private music lessons and classroom experiences, I prioritize flexibility, exploration, and meaningful connection. Whether we’re diving into theory, technique, or performance, I aim to empower each learner to take ownership of their musical growth in a way that feels exciting and uniquely theirs. With a foundation in private instrumental teaching and a year of experience teaching Primary school music, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this approach can be. Honestly? It’s amazed me how quickly children come out of their shell when you give them the space to explore. Some of the shyest students have become the boldest performers—and lessons are often an absolute blast. They’re full of unexpected discoveries, lots of laughter, and those magical moments where everything just clicks. My resources are designed to support that mission—whether used one-on-one or in a group setting—and to make music learning feel joyful, accessible, and student-centered at its core. While they take a great deal of thought, time, and care to create, I’ve found that they often become a small part of the lesson that makes a big impact. Sometimes it’s a five-minute game or a simple worksheet—but those moments often spark the most engagement and growth. And to me, that’s what great teaching is all about.

My own education history

Hi there! Hi, I’m Jess! I’m a music teacher at Spark! School of Performing Arts and a recent graduate from Durham University (UK) with a BA in Education Studies & Music. This year, I’ve been accepted into the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) program at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI)—a huge step toward becoming a fully qualified teacher in my home country. While I’m incredibly grateful and excited to continue my journey in education, I’m now facing the challenge of funding this next step—especially when it comes to books, course materials, and essential teaching tools. To help support myself, I’ve started creating and sharing music theory worksheets, flashcards, bookmarks, and lesson materials—resources I first designed for my own students. What began as a fun, creative outlet has turned into something I hope can benefit other teachers too. You can find many of these resources on my Ko-fi shop, and I’m also open to commissions! If you’re looking for custom worksheets, themed lesson packs, or classroom printables, I’d love to help. I’m confident I can create meaningful, engaging tools tailored to your needs. By supporting this goal—whether through a donation, a shop purchase, or a commission—you’re not just helping me fund my education. You’re investing in the next generation of students I’ll get to teach and inspire. Thank you for helping me grow, so I can continue helping others do the same. 💛 With gratitude and music, Jess
