McGraw-Hill Wonders Units 1-6 Parent Spelling Handbook These lists include the weekly phonics words, sight words and other words with the phonics skills. There is also a short explanation on each page to help families understand the sound. This could be used as a spelling curriculum for homeschool groups. It includes all short vowels, most long vowel spellings and consonant diagraphs. The 1st unit is available for free to preview.

This is a week long vocabulary and conversation lesson that I used with my first grade ELL students. It includes 10 vocabulary cards, sample sentence frames and lesson plans as well as a little matching game using the emotions. This was used to help ELL students understand more complex emotions and work on how to explain those emotions.

This is a selection of 4 first grade appropriate reading passages covering back to school topics. The reading passages have a mix of CVC words, high frequency words and back to school words. The topics are: My First Day, School Supplies, School Days, and Recess. After reading the passages, the students are asked to do activities that cover Common Core standards 1.RL.1 and 1.RL.2 (sequencing, making connections, pulling out key details, sorting, and answering questions).

This pack covers most of the skills in Common Core Standards RL.2 and RL.3. The students can read any fiction text, find the character, setting, problem, main idea, and key details. Then they are asked to write a summary of the story. These worksheets can be used together to do a fiction book study or used individually to teach each of these skills!
