This file contains 9 weeks of daily word problems covering various topics aligned with the Common Core 7th Grade Standards. In addition, there is a weekly "Math the 'Write' Way" problem in which the students solve the problem and then explain in complete sentences their work. I have also included the sheet in which the students show their work. I use these on a nightly basis, but others have suggested them to be used as station work. This activity is a fun 2-3 day activity to reinforce probability concepts. Students play 6 different games using various probability tools such as dice, coins, spinners and cards. Students use the Fundamental Counting Principle, Tree Diagrams and organized lists to find the total number of outcomes possible for each game. Students then use concepts of independent and dependent events to find the probability of winning each game. Game directions and student worksheets included.

This is a standards based assessment that covers 8th grade common core standards. The topics covered are Exponent rules and Scientific Notation. The assessment includes the questions, the answer document in which the students show their work and the solution guide.

Writing in the math classroom is vital. In these weekly problems, students solve the math problem and then explain their work in complete sentences. They must explain not only how they solved the problem, but also why they are solving it the way they are. These problems encourage problem solving. My name is Joe Schorr and I teach both 7th and 8th grade math. These are right in line with the new Common Core Standards.
