Experience

I am currently a reading specialist and Title One teacher in a K-5 school. I have 31 years of experience in teaching reading in K through 8th grade including being a special education case manager for a number of those years. I am a graduate school adjunct profesor in reading and special education. In my curren positon, for 3 years, I work with Tier 1, 2, and 3 in Kindergarten, first, and second grades. I love doing whole group lessons, guided reading groups and small group intervention. My job affords me the opportunity to do all these things and to work with teachers, helping to develop curriculum and assessments.

Teaching style

I have a fervent belief that students learn what we teach them. Not only content and strategies but what we believe about them as learners. In this age high stakes assessment sometimes we lose sight of the child. That is why I celebrate every little bit of sucess my students have-and they believe me! And by believing me they believe in themselves. Once that begins my job is to help them to become independent.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I received the Literacy Award in 1994 from the Granite State Council of the International Reading Association. I also presented at the ASCD International Convention in Chicago in 2006.

My own education history

I was awarded my doctorate in leadership and curricullum on August 31, 2012 from NovaSoutheastern University. I worked for many years-over 10-to acheive this goal and I'm extremely grateful to all of the people that helped me. I have a MEd in Reading and am a trained Reading Recovery teacher.

Additional biographical information

I am a happily married grandmother of two brilliant granchildren (I couldn't resist) who love to read! My husband and business partner, Ernest, and I live on the coast of NH, a short stroll to the Atlantic Ocean. We love to sail and are taking up kayaking this year.
