About the store
I have taught for eleven years and have been a tutor for eight years. My background is mostly in the primary grades, but I have worked with students in all ages- mostly in reading with the older ones. Most of my work has also been in special education. BIG NEWS 2018-2019 School Year: I have recently left special education for this school year and have moved to junior high. On top of that, I have also left the public school system and moved over to Catholic education. I'm still actually in the same district area as last year, but in a different kind of school-if that makes any sense. I may go back to special education at some point.

Experience

I have taught for eleven years and have been a tutor for eight years. My background is mostly in the primary grades, but I have worked with students in all ages- mostly in reading with the older ones. Most of my work has also been in special education. BIG NEWS 2018-2019 School Year: I have recently left special education for this school year and have moved to junior high. I'm still actually in the same district area as last year, but in a different kind of school-if that makes any sense. I may go back to special education at some point.

Teaching style

During my high school and college years, as well as during my teaching career, I have tutored and taught children with a wide range of disabilities, including, but not limited to the following: Autism, Down Syndrome, cognitive disabilities, emotional disturbances, other health impairment, specific learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD, hearing impaired, and spinal muscular atrophy. I have also worked with gifted and talented students. I also believe in taking a student centered approach to teaching. I believe that students and teachers are co-learners; both bring new and fresh ideas into the classroom. This approach also allows for critical thinking to occur, because students are asked to both reflect and share ideas during instruction. Plus, having this classroom set up allows for a healthy and trusting bond to form between students and the teacher.

Additional biographical information

I currently live in on a farm and work in a very rural community. I enjoy walking my dog, spending time with my family, reading, and writing. I am always looking for fresh new ideas. Youtube: : JungleWorldTeacher Link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOpEtzk-YgfEI2fcpssowdg
