This is a creative summative assessment option after finishing the court scenes in the novel. The class creates a true crime podcast - students are in small groups and assigned specific chapters to cover that relate to the case/evidence/trial. Teacher should play at least one true crime podcast series prior to assigning this - I recommend Dateline podcasts. This file gives the small group chapter assignments, a brief overview of the process, and a detailed rubric.
9 page PDF file created on Canva This product outlines 8 project options that serve as summative assessment options/creative projects after finishing reading William Golding's Lord of the Flies. You could allow students to choose an option or have groups draw a number randomly from a cup which aligns to a project. You could allow students to trade projects too (I usually do because of varying skill sets). Projects include a parody using your own students/classmates, a psychological research p
Song lyrics are lines of poetry put to music. I use this activity as part of a "centers" type lesson with stations related to Harlem Renaissance music, art, and poetry, but it could also be used as an introductory activity to engage students before they study the Harlem Renaissance. I do not allow technology because I like the challenge, but you could allow students to Google the lyrics to complete this. You could also challenge students to submit some lyrics to try to stump you: do they come fr
File created on Canva and does NOT include a mask template - I bought one from someone else on TpT. This is a partner activity in which students are assigned a dynamic character to analyze. They must split a paper mask in half and decorate one side to represent the boy upon arrival on the island and the other side is where they design a tribal mask that reflects the boy's change in personality. On the back, students provide specific textual evidence of the boy's change and defend their work on

In addition to the home page, there are 5 tabs across the top: Finding Credible Sources, Using Sources, Intext Citation, Works Cited, and Plagiarism. The home page has intro videos over each topic & a link to an MLA template. Some content covered incl

This activity works well after teaching types of conflict. Students find textual evidence of types of conflict in Wright's "The Rights to the Streets of Memphis" and then they identify the type of conflict in passages from Wright's Native Son.
This is a series of infographics with a detailed group work assignment over Bierce's short story, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge." Students should be in 5-person groups and will assign roles amongst themselves: Illustrator, Annotator, Deep Thinker, Linguist, and Character Analyst. Specific directions are available for each role. For example, the linguist defines vocabulary words, changes some sentences from passive to active voice, makes a sentence more concise, compares similar diction, and

This is a read-aloud script for Chapter 2 of Of Mice and Men. It eliminates profanity and engages students with the reading. I like it because it allows for some variety in how we read each chapter.
