This game lets students practice the parts of the face and is a fun twist on Mr. Potato Head. Students roll dice to determine which facial feature they can add. The object of the game is to be the first person with the entire face of Frida completed. They MUST roll a one (la cabeza y las cejas) before they can start adding features. Available in pineapple and pumpkin versions! Pro tip: Laminate everything prior to cutting it out. Then students can use a tiny dab of washable glue stick to hold t
The game, "Guess Who" is perfect for students who are learning colors, clothing, and personal characteristics in Spanish. I use this activity to practice convergent vs. divergent thinking skills with my GT students. I also use it to introduce Hands on Equations as a way of demonstrating how a variable represents an unknown in an expression or equation, and that variable's value can change from one expression to the next. The document contains a series of puzzles for students to solve. For example, in the case of 12 M in a Y, M=months and Y=year. Puzzles progress from easy to difficult. Answers included. (Note:
I introduced the parts of the face/upper body by showing a video demonstration of how to draw a self-portrait. (The link to the video is included; the instruction is in Spanish.) Then I drew myself while students followed along and drew their own self-portraits. I hung the pictures around the room, and students did a "gallery walk" where they tried to guess who was in each portrait. I followed up with a student-friendly video about Frida Kahlo (link included), then had students label the face p
Please note: I have updated this lesson plan to include more detailed directions and functioning links!Canva is an intuitive graphic design website that gives students just the right amount of creative options without being overly complicated. It's also FREE for teachers and students. All work is automatically saved, so nothing gets lost. In this project, students will create a portrait in the style of Guiseppe Arcimboldo using the Canva website. I have included my sample (without the watermark)
My Spanish students enjoy colorful visuals, but color printing for multiple classes is cost prohibitive and wasteful. I create lots of images that I can project in order to facilitate conversation. This spot-the-differences activity can be used to introduce "hay" to a class with a variety of skill levels. First, students study an image of a living room for 30 seconds. When the image disappears, they make a list (in Spanish) of the items they remember seeing in the room. Next, students work in p
My Spanish classes love playing games, and the opportunity to win a prize (no matter how small) is a strong motivator for learning vocabulary. The Spanish students create their own bingo cards by cutting out images and pasting them in whatever order they choose under the corresponding category. This provides variety amongst the cards and allows the students to pick words/categories they know best. This vocab is designed for beginning Spanish speakers. It includes: Clothing Colors Animals Frui

This is an image of a clothesline that I project for my students when we are studying clothing and colors. I use it with several age groups. I like that it's in color, but I don't have to make a bunch of color copies. For students in grades 1-3, I project the image on my screen and have them write "sí" or "no" as I point and ask questions about each item of clothing. (Ex: Es la camisa? Sí. La camisa es roja? No.) For older students (grades 4-8), I use this as a quiz after completing the sí/no ac
The Mystery Circle is a perfect enrichment activity for your high-achievers and early-finishers. Designed for gifted and talented students, it requires flexible thinking and creative problem solving. -SOLUTION-1. Solve the math problems. There are 12 problems, and the answers are numbers 1 - 12 (though not in that order). NOTE: Round to whole numbers. 2. Recognize that those numbers correspond with a clock face and place the numbers in the correct location on the "mystery circle." 3. Solve the
Shockingly, I have a limited budget. (I'm sure you are all struggling to relate.) I love the game, "Guess Who?", but couldn't purchase a dozen games. Instead, I created my own cards. Laminate these cards (or put them in plastic sleeves), and students can play over and over again. Your purchase includes: 2 different playing cards 1 set of small cards for drawing (cut-out) You will need: clipboards dry erase markers erasers (I use old socks. Yes, I wash them.)
Teachers can use this slideshow as an introduction to art appreciation as shaped through an understanding of the elements of art and the principles of design. It's also an easy lesson for a sub to handle. The slideshow features eight* works of art from various periods. Students work in small groups to evaluate each slide decide if the art is visually satisfying ("good art") and describe the reasons for their decisions. The slides could also be printed and used for a gallery walk. At first, stude
These empty conversation bubbles are helpful for students mastering common Spanish phrases and high frequency words. Teachers have the option of providing a list of possibilities (included) or making the activity open ended. I noticed that my advanced students enjoyed creating conversations that included two or three sentences per person. I used this as a warm up activity prior to asking students to write, memorize, and perform their own dialogues. Hope it's helpful!
These cards provide a variety of options for teaching the days of the week in Spanish. Once the cards are cut out, they can be used for practicing pronunciation, putting the days in order, or playing memory. Teachers can select which sets of cards they give students which allows for differentiation. Actual cards are a seven to a page. Print smaller or larger depending on your needs. Three total pages.
This slideshow provides instructions for constructing a color wheel out of found objects. The lesson is differentiated for a variety of ages, from first to fifth. Ideal for online students or homeschoolers. Feel free to send it to your students as is or make changes to better personalize it.
This set of Google slides will walk students through an easy watercolor lesson creating funky abstract trees. The lesson can be adjusted to make it appropriate for spring or fall. Because the art lesson uses items any child would have at home, it's ideal for remote learning or online instruction.
If you're like me, you have a small budget and limited display space. Instead of spending $14 on a poster, I made this one on Canva. Designed to be printed on 11x17 paper, but could be enlarged.
