Teaching style

Having 4 boys of my own has helped me ensure to have my students MOVE during lessons. It's so important to bring in kinesthetic, auditory, and visual aspects into each day. Having been through Science of Teaching Reading (Reading Academies), I've also recognized the vital importance of phonological awareness as a precursor to phonics instruction.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Seeing one of my students go from below to masters grade level in one school year!

My own education history

Bachelor of Arts in Education and Spanish from the College of William & Mary (Williamsburg, VA)

Additional biographical information

I am a single mother of 5 - 4 boys by birth and one girl by adoption. They are the loves of my life and have taught me so much about how to meet the needs of different personalities and learning styles. Two of my children have special needs (one son has Asperger's or high-functioning autism, and my daughter has fetal alcohol spectrum disorder). With sub-diagnoses of sensory processing, OCD, ADHD, ADD-inattention, auditory processing, emotional disturbance, and other learning disabilities, I've learned a lot of accomodations along the way.
