On the first day of each new unit, I have my students glue their “learning targets” into their interactive science notebook. This is a way to activate their prior knowledge on the subject. This is also a way to communicate learning expectations to parents and students. This learning target page can serve as a study guide too!

TSW complete a mini lab called the dropping races. TSW drop 3 different items at the same time to see what will hit the ground first! After completing the group will write a conclusion they came to!

This mini lab is perfect for teaching pitch and frequency. Glue these into your science notebooks! For each small group you will need: 1 large metal binder clip 1 thick rubber band 1 medium rubber band 1 thin rubber band Have the students clip the binder clip on their desk or table. Place each rubber band one at a time in the clip. The students will notice a change in pitch and frequency when they change the thickness of rubber band and when the pull it tighter. This test includes vocabulary: pitch, frequency, sound waves, volume, and vibration. It assesses students understanding of pitch. There are a variety of question types including written response.

Use these QR CODE sound questions at the end of your sound unit to review! There is an answer key provided! This covers volume, pitch, sound waves, how sound travels best...etc...

Your students will LOVE making Window Brochures! Tell your kids that they now own a window company selling 3 types of windows. They need to advertise each of the three types. I give my kids a piece of wax paper(translucent), clear plastic(transparent) and brown paper bag(opaque) to create their windows on their brochure. Give the kids their rubric BEFORE beginning their assignment, so they know what is expected of them! There is also a self-check portion on the rubric!

Great for beginning of the year kindergarten or pre-k. The students can do a page a day for writing. You can make this into a booklet where the students can draw/write about their favorite person, place, and thing. They could write/draw one each day!

This light assessment covers refraction, reflection, concave/convex lenses, transparent, opaque, and translucent objects, and prisms. Students will be asked to show their understanding through the use of matching terms with definitions using word banks, written response, and creating illustrations to show understanding.

The students use this graphic organizer to look on the site weatherwizkids to discover how clouds are formed. The graphic organizer goes in exact order of the information on the site!

Use these EXIT TICKETS to formally assess your students in any subject area, for any grade level. Print the tickets, cut them out, and give them to students. Ask them any question you want..describe, define, draw, etc.. Collect the tickets to see where your class is on a topic. You can color in the smiley faces before returning to the kids to show the students/parents where they are in their understanding. See the picture for a visual of exit tickets in use! This is a great way to see where your
