Teaching Response to Literature is a comilation of tools used to help students produce written response to literature pieces. It is the result of 7 years of trying to come up with something that worked for kids of all ability levels when teaching written literary response. I have included step-by-step instructions, sentence frames, maps, recommendations,and a few easy stories to use in the process. It begins in a scripted format but addresses all of the aspects of writing good Literary response

This is a PowerPoint review that was originally part of a 600+ slide 4/5 standards review. I have now taken each section and made it into its own reveiw. This is the first finished segment. It is easily adaptable to both "clickers" and smart board formats. It is presented in a multiple choice format to mimic the CST and I have included pictures to make it easier for EL learners to choose the correct answers. My kids love it!

Beginning Frame Sets for Response to Literature is a series of frames addressing different types of Response to Literature prompts. These are very useful for EL learners, resource, and stuggling learners. In addition they add a format to new learners to Response to Literature. They are part of a book also found on this site titles "Teaching Response to Literature".

This is a set of vocabulary flash cards with words, meanings, and pictures. Students cut out all three and paste to flash cards. In the process students are manipulating words, meanings, and pictures to help enhance their understanding of key vocabulary for this story. Once they have been made into flash cards students can "buddy study", play games with the cards or use in the tradition manner of flash cards.

Frame Set III for Response to Literature is the 3 set in a series of three for teaching Response to Literature. This set is for students who have a conceptual understanding of Response to Literature writing but lack the organizational skills and vocabulary to accurately and completely respond to a RTL prompt. It is the last step before setting them on their own in terms of being able to answer prompt questions about pieces of writing. It is also found in my book "Teaching Response to Literature"

Frame Set II For Response to Literature is the second in a series of Frame sets for teaching Response to Literature. This is the intermediate frame set for children who understand the basic Response to Literature format and need help with more sophistocated language and sentence frames. This set is also found in my book "Teaching Response to Literature" found on this site as well.

This is vocabulary flash cards for All Summer in a Day from the 6th grade Holt Literature book. The vocabulary is in three parts; the word, its definition, and a visual to go with the meaning. Students put these together as flash cards and can use a variety of techniques to help them master the major vocabulary in this story.

Just Once from the Holt Intro course Gr. 6 Vocabulary Flash cards are designed to allow students to manipulate the words for better understanding. Students can use these as flash cards to create games, use in traditional flash card format, or "buddy study".

The Emperor's New Clothes Vocabulary words from the Holt Language Arts Intro course grade 6 book are in designed to be cut our and manipulated to increase student understanding. They come with the word, a defintion, usually a synonym, and a picture.

The Bracelet Holt Literature Introductory course gr. 6 vocabulary cards are designed to help students learn and retain story vocabulary. Each packet comes with the vocab words, their definitions, usually synonyms, and pictures. Students can use them as flash cards, or to play games.

Solar System Bodies from Holt Literature Grade 6 Intro course Vocabulary is designed to help students learn and retain story vocabulary. Each packet comes with vocabulary words, definitions, and a picture. Student can make them into flash cards, use a a matching or other game and "buddy study".

Baucis and Philomon Vocabulary flash cards. These include the vocabulary words, a defintion, and a picture. Students can make flash cards from them for multiple ways to manipulate the words for increased understanding.

One Child's Labor of Love from Holt Literature Introductory course, grade 6,vocabulary flashcards include the vocab words, definitions, and pictures. Students use them as flashcards, for games, or "buddy study" time.

This resource is for teachers wanting to increase their effectiveness. This document outlines the prerequisite skills for teaching all the reading literature standards in 6th grade. It should be used as a DOK blueprint. Standards are listed along with kid friendly summaries. I use the kid friendly summaries to hang on the wall. These are provided in 5 x 7 half sheets and I have printed them and laminated them on colored paper.

These are Holt Spelling lessons 7 - 11 in Word Sort Format. Numbering is slightly different from the original Holt Intro course spelling as the review lessons have not been included.

This resource is for teaching looking to be more effective. These are the DOK progressions for Speaking and listening for 6th grade. They should be used as a blue print for step by step teaching of these standards.
