This handout and activity explains working and expanded outlines and how students can use working outlines to construct topic sentences. I have included two worksheets--one for constructing a working outline and one for creating topic sentences. I have been found this process of using outlines to create topic sentences to be very helpful, especially for my more reluctant writers. It's a very effective way to help writers stay on track and eliminate writer's block.
