This common core aligned journal paper is absolutely ideal for emerging writers. The expectations are clearly displayed on the paper. One sheet has a checklist in the top right corner, the other has stars instead of checks; choose which one you'd like. For each check/star that the students complete, they can self-assess by coloring a star at the bottom of the page. The next page is for you to make the journals double-sided for those kiddos who like to write a lot! Lastly, I created a poem to i

These posters are absolutely perfect to support comprehension reading strategies for kindergarten, first grade, or second grade! The cute images (from MyCuteGraphics.com), paired with simple "I can" statements help in directly teaching these strategies. They can be used to support a lesson as anchor charts, or as classroom decorations in a reading center. The strategies I included are "Making Connections," "Inferring," "Questioning," "Synthesizing," "Determining Importance," and "Visualizing."

Individual Mini Behavior Charts

Great alternative to a large clip chart! Feel free to use in the classroom or personal use. I make enough copies so each student has a behavior chart. I print them on cardstock paper, or I laminate regular paper, and use masking tape on the left side to secure it to their desks or table spots. The kids each get a paperclip that fastens onto the right side of the behavior chart. The paperclip can then slide up and down the chart depending on their individual behavior level.

Where writing meets SEL...Do you find that young writers struggle to come up with content to write during writing center? Even when provided prompts, the task of writing can be overwhelming. Consider this issue resolved! When students have a chance to discuss their writing beforehand, they have an opportunity to plan their writing. There is no better way to get students talking and sharing than during morning meeting. Connecting morning meeting to writing benefits all students to not only verbal

This bookmark is perfect for initiating discussion between students as a reflection and editing tool after writing. I use this in centers; students keep the bookmark in their writing journals, then when they are finished writing, they can find a friend who also finished their work, and have the discussion as prompted on the bookmark: 3 things you love about your writing, 2 things you want to change, 1 goal for next time.

Daily 5 Board and Student Check-In Form

Students will love taking ownership of their learning during Daily 5 rotations by choosing their center! Post the first page on the projector; each student gets a copy of the second page per week. By the end of the week, students should have gone to each center at least one time; this can be verified by using the Daily 5 check-in form. Students will circle the centers visited on a specific day. Great personalized learning tool!
