Syllable Surgery-SoR and OG Inspired Word Work

This resource is an interactive slide deck for syllable division. The slides are editable in the sense that you can enter your own words for students to divide. Teaching students syllable types provides an opportunity to break words into manageable parts. Students will become more confident in reading longer words more accurately and fluently.

Shopping with Santa using Dimes and Pennies

This is a 3 page flipchart teaching students to use dimes and pennies. I use this in a whole group teaching lesson where first graders use real dimes and pennies to show how much it would cost to buy a certain (Christmas themed) item. The 3rd page allows for the purchase of 2 items at a Bake Sale. Students show each amount of money using dimes and pennies and then combine the coins to obtain a total amount. This flipchart was very effective in teaching this skill.

Teaching style

Constantly asking the question, "Is this student-centered?' is our compass. We do our best to meet students where they are and give them the tools to move forward. Hence, we believe in a growth mindset. We are classroom teachers and believe that rigor is key to significant growth within students and ourselves.
