Keep on Solvin'

In this project, the students will use scale factor to enlarge a candy wrapper. The final project will include an enlarged colored candy wrapper along with follow-up questions about the project. They will also have to solve a series of problems involving scale factor. If they finish early, there is an extension to the project that involves using the scale factor with the nutritional information. *I would recommend to create your own centimeter grid paper.

This project has the students explore data using skittles. The students will first get to practice their estimation skills and then use the data to determine the mean, median, mode, and range. From there, the students will create a fraction of the data to convert it to a decimal and percent. They will then find the angles to create a pie chart of their data.

The students play a card game similar to Go Fish where they attempt to make pairs that add to zero. The activity provides contains the directions along with a scoresheet where they record their addition statement.

In this project, students will explore and create different types of triangles. They will create their own isosceles, equilateral, and scalene triangle along with an acute, right, and obtuse triangle. They will also explore a situation that will result in no triangle.

This station activity provides the students with the opportunity to practice solving problems using the properties of exponents. There are 4 stations that get increasingly harder as the students progress. This activity is great because it allows you to do strategic group planning. I have my struggling students start at the easier station and my advanced students start at the more difficult station. In this activity, the students will explore the percent of change formula. Students will solve for the percent of change from two trials of running the 40 yard dash. This activity is a fun and engaging way to teach them about percent of change.

In this activity, students will construct their own paper airplane. From there, they will complete two flying trials to then calculate the percent of change. This activity is a fun and engaging way to teach the students about percent of change.

This card game has the students partner up where they battle to get the most cards. The students will draw the top two cards and solve using multiplication or division. The activity has the direction page, a scoresheet, and a card mat to help the students solve.

In this project, the students will explore the contents of their lunch. They will take the data to create a bar graph and pie chart. At the end of the project, the students will sign an energy pledge and determine ways that they can conserve. *You can create your own data or use the data that I provided.
