My teaching style is structured, intentional, and student-centered. I believe that all students are capable of high-level musical achievement when given the right tools, support, and environment. In my classroom, I emphasize expressive music-making, deep music literacy, and reflective growth.
My teaching style is structured, intentional, and student-centered. I believe that all students are capable of high-level musical achievement when given the right tools, support, and environment. In my classroom, I emphasize expressive music-making, deep music literacy, and reflective growth.
I use a variety of strategies — from peer feedback and video exemplars to vocabulary scaffolds and real-time formative assessments — to meet students where they are and help them grow as musicians and thinkers. I prioritize student voice, autonomy, and mutual respect, creating a space where young artists feel safe to take risks, refine their skills, and celebrate their progress.
As a huge advocate for literacy, my teaching blends ensemble performance with deep music understanding, vocabulary development, and reflective practice. I believe students learn best when they understand the "why" behind the music — composer intent, musical terms, cultural context, and expressive interpretation.
