Students will be given the task to design a device to help a plant survive in the desert. Scenario, suggested materials list, and student work pages are included!
Students will design a filter using materials of your choice (such as ribbon, coffee filters, cheesecloth, tape, plastic cups, really anything you have around!) to separate a mixture of sand, water, and seashells.
In this activity, students will design a windmill out of everyday objects. During the design phase students can decide what materials to use, and if they need to bring in anything from home. This can be used as part of a unit on alternative energy sources and/or pollution.

In this activity, students are asked to design a boat to transport cargo. Scenario and student worksheet is included. NOTE TO TEACHERS: boats are made from tin foil sheets and the cargo is pennies. Fill any container with water to test.
