This unit has lessons integrated within all areas of the curriculum. This unit touches areas in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Health, etc.
This unit included 22 lessons including how clouds are formed, thunderstorm safety posters, rainbow formation, wind, sunshine and much much more.
I have included a resource page with websites and a materials page for what is needed for the unit. This was created for a Kindergarten class but could easily be adapted to first or second grade. I h
I used this Powerpoint as an introduction activity to my poetry unit. I gave each student a sack to take home and fill with whatever item they want. In class, they switched bags with another student. Their peer was able to read inside and feel the object but was not able to look at it. That student wrote a poem similar to Shel Silverstein's "What's in the Sack" to reflect the item they felt in their classmate's bag.
This is a research project aligned to the 3rd grade Common Core standard for entrepreneurship. Students will choose an entrepreneur to research. They will then organize their information into a one-page report and create a poster. Students will get a sense of what it takes to become an entrepreneur and how to start a successful business. Included in this set: -Research Project Cover -Parent letter containing information and requirements for the project -Notetaking graphic organizer -Bibliograph
This document is used to create reading response journals. I used them as a homework assignment after nightly reading, but they could easily be used during reading workshop in the classroom. It includes a sheet with writing promots and an example of how the prompt should be written.
I used a marbleized composition book and glued the prompts on the inside of the cover and glued an example on the top of the first page.
These were also great for portfolios and parents conferences.

This game is adapted from the formative assessment of Find Someone Who... Here are the rules. Each child will have this sheet. They need to find classmates to solve each math problem on their sheet. When a child solves a problem, they need to write their name in the box. (This helps you monitor work and if there is an incorrect answer, you know who to ask to fix it.) The most important rules are you cannot solve more than 1 problem on a classmate's sheet and you cannot solve a problem you have a
This was an activity I did around Thanksgiving. I set up 5 stations around the room with fresh cranberries. Students explored the inside of cranberries, which ones are fresh, how many cranberries equals another object, etc. The only materials you will need is this packet for each student, about 2 bags of fresh cranberries and other materials you find around the classroom. My students really enjoyed this activity.

This could be spread out over a 2 week period. This is a complete unit for Holes including reading workshop, word study and writing workshop lesson plans Monday-Friday.
I created these cards for students to be able to generate their own questions while reading. They have been great for partner reading and small group readings to get them thinking as they read. I actually had them printed from a printing company on cardstock but they can easily be printed cut and laminated.

This note taking sheet is great for a Beverly Cleary author study after reading several of her wonderfully written novels, including Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Ramona and Beezus. I created this for a websearch style research. My students then used this information to write a biography about Beverly Cleary.
I did a soil project with my students. The three types of soil (sand, humus, and clay) are taught in third grade. I created this letter to send home to parents to ask relatives around our country to send soil samples from their area. We received a tremendous amount of samples from around our country including sand from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We then mapped it on a bulletin board to show where each sample came from. We classified the samples into the three types of soils. We also us
