Students will learn how to use they keys of the calculator to solve problems with fractions, decimals, rounding, simplifying fractions, and more. It is important for students to know how to do those problems without the use of a calculator- however, with application problems, knowing how to use a calculator is equally as important. It is a tool that needs to be learned! This can be used as center work, homework, independent work, early finisher work, whole group instruction!

This project is great for students who are being introduced to graphing simple equations in the form y=mx+b Students will be graphing a total of 15 lines on a piece of graph paper to create a stained glass window design. Students will explore www.spaceplace.nasa.gov to learn more about the Solar System. The exploration requires students to read and watch videos to gather information. SCOOT is a great low prep activity to get your kids up and moving to practice basic skills. How it works: print out cards (pro tip: laminate and use card stock!) 1. set one card on each desk upside down. 2. Set a timer for 5-10 seconds. Each student will stand in front of the desk/card. when the timer starts, they will flip over the card to solve and record their answer. The student will flip the card back over. 3. Use this creative writing topic to enhance your unit around the holidays! Students will be using creative writing techniques to brainstorm and create their own monster. The students will create a rough draft describing their created monster. Monsters can be scary or nice! An examples is provided on the following page. Have students draw or create the monster they wrote about! Great to display!

Print the letters and display in your classroom! Use Astro Bright paper to make it pop! Mini anchor chart for students available in PDF- use in interactive notebooks or tape on their desks.

Students will use distributive property, negative numbers, and combining like terms to simplify expressions. This can be used as independent practice or small group activity. Students will do a first attempt, check answers, and try again if needed. Students get 3 attempts to simplify expressions. Answer key provided.

Students can work in groups or independently to be assessed on their understanding of solving one step equations. Students may or may not use calculators to increase/decrease difficulty. I have students strategically paired and direct them to do 1 or 2 problems then have me check. I "star" the question if it is correct. If not, I say try again. Without erasing, the students put the new answer in the box next to it. If the student(s) can get it within 2 attempts, I give full credit.

Students will solve equations using two steps that involve negatives. Once the students solve each equation, the student will color the solution below. This is great for intervention or introducing two step equations because it provides an "answer bank" below.
