Experience

Hi! I’m Jodi Kenton, a passionate 7th grade math teacher with 13 years of classroom experience. For the past 9 years, I’ve proudly taught at Daniel L. Joyce Middle School in Woburn, MA—right in the community where I grew up. I’ve spent 12 of those years focused on middle school math, and I truly love helping students build both confidence and curiosity in the subject.

Teaching style

Before we dive into equations or geometry, I focus on building a classroom environment where students feel comfortable, welcomed, and seen. I believe that when students feel safe and supported, they’re much more willing to take academic risks and engage with challenging content. Once the vibe is set, that’s when the math magic begins! I use creativity, hands-on activities, real-world examples, and visual models to help students truly connect with the content. My goal is to help every student not just do math—but understand it, enjoy it, and see themselves as capable mathematicians.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I've been honored multiple times as one of Woburn’s Awesome Teachers, a recognition that means the world to me. Outside the classroom, I launched Rapid Recipes, an after-school cooking club designed to bring students together around creativity and life skills. This past school year, I helped organize our inaugural 7th Grade Scale Drawing Showcase, where students proudly displayed their artistic takes on logos, characters, and more—combining precision in math with personal flair.

My own education history

I graduated from Lesley University with a degree in Education and Mathematics, where I balanced academics with life as a student-athlete. That experience shaped my belief that students thrive when they’re supported both academically and personally. I continued my journey by earning my Master’s degree from American International College, strengthening my instructional practice and passion for creating meaningful, engaging math resources for the classroom.

Additional biographical information

Outside the classroom, I run a small creative business called Handcrafted by Jodi Kenton, where I design custom home and event décor. I specialize in hand-lettering, signage, and personalized pieces for weddings, parties, and special occasions. I love bringing creative visions to life—whether it’s through painting, crafting, or designing something truly one-of-a-kind. That same creativity shows up in my classroom, too!
