WAM stands for Writing About Math. This product will increase math achievement through mathematical justification. Scholars are required to solve math problems and justify their answers through written responses and models. Scholars are then required to give their justification points based on the rubric.
Math with a W.A.M! requires students to justify their mathematical thinking. Students must agree or disagree with the prompt and prove their answer through writing and mathematical models. Students then rate their response using the three point rubric.
This is a great way to introduce Writing About Math to younger students. It introduces W.A.M! by using five frame prompts. Students will prove their mathematical thinking by tracing "I agree" or "I disagree", coloring the thumbs up or thumbs down, and creating a five frame model. It also helps students with early literacy skills. Students are able to use their sight word and one to one correspondence knowledge to read the five frame prompts.
