5 days of multiplication activities based on the book Minnie's Diner A Multiplying Menu. Each sheet is differentiated for on grade level and above grade level learners. Guides students to see the relationships between sets of factors to help them develop strategies to learn basic multiplication facts.

3.MD.7D is addressed in this activity where students decompose a shape into smaller rectangles to find the total area.

Addresses CC 3.NF.3D using cuisenaire rods to have students look at the size of the whole when comparing fractions. The whole is telling students which rod to use. They use the other rods to cut the whole into the needed parts. Students are using the rods to see that when the same size whole is cut into more parts (larger denominator) the size of the parts are becoming smaller in size. For example #1 has students using the purple rod (4) to compare 3/4 and 1/4. They use the white rod (1) to se

3.NF.3A, B, and C are addressed as students use a Hersheys candy bar to discover equivalent fractions. Differentiated for struggling learners as well.

Common Core aligned to 3.NBT.2 students solve riddles about numbers using a 100s chart.

Includes 6 different designs. Positive quotes would be a good first week activity having the kids share what they think the quote on their punch card means to their age.

Students explore fractions using Cuisenaire Rods.

This activity supports 3.NBT.2 and students use a broken 100s chart to solve riddles by moving on the chart. Goes great with the Math Solutions book It Makes Sense Activities on the 100s chart.

This Van De Walle activity requires students to measure crooked paths with Cuisenaire rods. They need to estimate how many rods of a certain color they think the rod is and then find the difference after measuring with rods.

Behavior punch cards with a paw print theme. Email me if you would like a different theme and I will create it for you. =)

Students will estimate and use subtraction skills to help Oscar pick the best costume, divide Milkbones equally among classmates and use addition/multiplication to figure amount of money raised for the animal shelter.

This differentiated activity goes along with the book Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. Students brainstorm different ways Jeremy could pay for his shoes using only $1, .10, or .01. The shoes Jeremy wants to buy are different amounts based on student skill level. This goes along with 3.NBT.2.

This blank 1000 chart is separated by 100s. Was used in my classroom to make a large 1000s chart for students to use in class discussions about making 1000.

Students use this recording sheet while they find the shapes with a certain area. They are asked to explain in writing how they knew their shapes met the area requirements. This is aligned to Common Core 3.MD.5A. A Word Doc is available upon request.

This activity addresses 3.MD.8 and has students solving riddles to build rectangles with certain areas and perimeters.

This conference log was created to track individual student progress using our district writing checklist. Both 2nd and 3rd grade expectations are included and separated into the 6 traits.

This activity comes from the 3-5 Van De Walle book and is aligned to Common Core Standards of 3.MD.5, 6, 7 and 8. Students are asked to determine the area of 4 rectangles using white cuisenaire rods (1 cm cubes) to explain why 1 rectangle is a better choice for the size of the new classrooms.
